Mixing Up Your Fitness Routine

Your personal trainer has the best answer to your question about how you should be spending time at the gym for maximum effectiveness.  If you don’t have a pt, your next best person to talk with is one of your class instructors.  This post is not intended to be a substitute for that kind of professional fitness advice.  However, here are some ideas for mixing up your fitness routine, especially if you are finding difficulty getting motivated to get there in the first place.


1) Bring a buddy along.  You can even inquire at the front desk about some versions of membership that include this.  Or maybe you and another member can motivate one another to both show up consistently and have friendly challenges.

2) Ease into a new class.  Some class instructors give you the option, for instance in Body Pump, to start off with half of a class.  Yoga instructors will modify poses for newcomers.  The annual Zumbathon at the NFC West Signature location gives you a chance to try out Zumba moves.

3) Do it in the water.  Concerned about your joints?  You can not only get in cardio, but some weight bearing exercises in an aqua fitness setting.

4) Feeling inhibited?  Women, try the Ladies Only section of your gym, where you can feel free to push yourself harder and try more machines without any unwanted attention.

5) Climb to new heights.  Get certified in just a few minutes to safely scale the climbing wall at the NFC West Signature club.  Add this to your regular workout, and note that the wall is regularly changed.

6) Accept a challenge.  Some members who’ve completed the 90-Day Challenge have seen impressive results.  Ask about the next challenge ahead at your club’s front desk.
