How often do you take time for yourself away from work and home responsibilities? If you’re a full-time stay-at-home mom, maybe you’ve gotten in the rut that many of us have of rarely taking a break from our mommy role.
Thanks to my friend Siobhan whose husband was able to watch her kids on the same night mine agreed to take care of things at home, so we could attend a screening of the Moms’ Night Out movie. Thanks to Type A Parent for coordinating the complimentary tickets.
Moms’ Night Out is a lighthearted celebration of parenthood with slapstick laugh lines and family friendly humor. Actress Patricia Heaton delivers a solid performance as always. The talented cast includes Sean Astin and and a surprisingly stellar Trace Adkins. While the movie starts off employing many parenting cliches, it becomes so incredibly silly that you eventually get too caught up laughing to care! There’s even the obligatory Hollywood chase scene.
If you’re a stay-at-home mom in a traditional family setting, you will find Moms’ Night Out very encouraging. If you’re one of America’s many moms who works as a professional outside the home or in any sort of nontraditional or flex parenting setting, you may find it a bit harder to relate. This film has a distinct, conservative, Christian message behind it.
My friend, who happens to be an ordained minister, suggested this would be a great film for Sunday school or moms’ groups to see together. I think she appreciated the movie’s entertainment value even more than I did. I was just happy to get out of the house for a couple of hours.
Moms’ Night Out opens in theaters May 9.
