How can we grow greener in our own little corners of the world? Below are a few suggestions:
Grow some of your own food. Even if it’s one tomato plant or a modest lettuce bed, you can produce some of your own food that only has to travel from your backyard to your kitchen.
Try building up soils instead of buying synthetic fertilizers. Composting, cover crops and nature’s fertilizers all offer ways to nourish your garden.
Capture rain water with a basic rain barrel system. It saves on your water bill and gives you a free but precious garden resource.
Give integrated pest management a chance. If you’ve been using synthetic fertilizers and toxic, persistent pesticides, it will take you more than one growing season to restore a balance in your garden.
How will you be greening your garden this year?
