The kids and I have done a good bit of cooking and baking together through the years. I’m not sure many recipes have grabbed their attention like our latest bread making activity.
We prepared a basic homemade bread, nothing extraordinary. But they wanted to be involved, asked questions, and anxiously awaited the chance to sample what we’d baked.
Bread baking teaches simple lessons:
Working with your hands can be honorable work.
Humble ingredients like yeast are mighty important.
Good things are worth the wait.
If your faith tradition includes the verse “give us this day our daily bread,” you can also find all sorts of inspirational stories to tell from a simple loaf of handcrafted goodness.
