The smell of freshly baked blueberry yogurt muffins filled the air, we whipped up a colorful smoothie packed with nutrients for busy moms, and we shared easy ways to make real food fun for kids at this weekend’s B 97.5 Parenting Expo in Knoxville, Tennessee.  The cooking stage was one of several family friendly centers happening simultaneously on this Saturday event that also included live music, fitness experts and inflatable fun.

Some bright young audience members helped pick an entire rainbow of fresh fruits and vegetables to display.  Moms and grandmas could relate when we talked about providing wholesome snack choices.  Maybe it’s as simple as sliced, organic apples dipped in vanilla/honey yogurt.  Sweet yogurt/basil dip with heart shaped fresh veggies or cool fruit/yogurt soup offer interesting alternatives to typical kids’ fare.  Getting children involved in shopping and cooking is a great way for families to know their food.

What an honor to be welcomed by Knoxville’s own Mary Constantine from Stirring the Pot and Sisters of the Skillet.  She cooked up some hot and hearty recipes on stage with her usual ease and made me feel at home.

I had a great time meeting lots of busy moms who’ll be trying Stonyfield’s new YoKids Greek yogurt for free, along with other organic yogurt products for babies and kids. Thanks to the folks at Stonyfield Farm for their generous gift of yogurt for my cooking demonstration and coupons for the public.  Go here for more of Stonyfield’s wholesome yogurt recipes from Meg’s kitchen.
